| My preference would be that fewer businesses and all of my competitors NOT utilize the services of Construction Monitor. It is sufficient to know that my name is Dave, my business is construction related, and my marketing trade secret is the proper use of building permit information. Both my wife and I were schoolteachers of moderate means when my wife was forced to retire from teaching due to multiple sclerosis. Four years ago, we started our business so that I could also quit teaching and spend full time at home caring for my wife. With some simple commercial computer software and the files provided us by Construction Monitor we have been able to design which clients we target market, what geographical area we wish to target, and when we wish to receive business from selected areas. We have been able to choose clients and select the areas of our trade business, which are the most profitable and least time consuming. My wife handles the computer and telephone and I provide services and deliver product. We are doing significantly better than when we were teaching and I am able to be home more often than when I was a teacher. Increased control over our money and time has allowed us to double the company staff to include our two little boy’s ages 2 1/2 and 1. We now own our equipment and have build up sufficient assets to expand our business and take advantage of other opportunities in our business. I do NOT recommend Construction Monitor and their services to competitors in my area as others circumstances are certainly different from ours. I must confess, however, that the people at Construction Monitor have not only been helpful but also kind and flexible. |

| I started using The Construction Monitor in December of 2001. It was the faxed version. We would use it exclusively for leads and send letters of interest to 15 or 20 prospects weekly. The decision was made by looking through the listings and picking out individual jobs, hand writing an envelope, logging in the name in our sheet and repeating this the following week. Now the Construction Monitor "Mailing Labels" feature writes my addresses for me. By I using the online service, I am sending out 90 or so letters and flyers, using the "Mailing Labels" option. I save a copy of the label sheet and put it in the binder for the log. No more do I hand write the log or envelopes. No more, mistakes when writing addresses. I get more mailings, quicker. My response is about 3 to 5 percent to the mailings. The Construction Monitor "Top Builder" report gives me the information that I need! I can target specific jurisdictions for builders, specific dollar values for projects, in any date range that I choose, then approach those builders for those jobs. We pull this report weekly. The Construction Monitor "Power Search" feature hunts down the builders name for me! I can phone in an address to my office and get the builder's name and phone number in the field for contact information now rather than visiting a jobsite and hoping that the right person is going to be there. The Construction Monitor is easy to receive! The Construction Monitor is faxed and e-mailed to me weekly. I can save the PDF and look up information quickly if our fax machine blurs a line or two or if I need to zoom in on a line. The Construction Monitor compiles and sorts the leads for me! I have gone to the permit centers at the county and city. I have gone to plan rooms and waded through those stacks of plans looking for leads. I used to spend more time running around looking for jobs and less time selling. The Construction Monitor is a true sales tool! I am responding to your testimonial department in regards to the usefulness of my subscription to Construction Monitor. However, you may not want to hear the testimonial I am about to give. I subscribed for the first time in about March of 2002. I had started my own business in January selling and installing window coverings and Phantom retractable screen doors, and was trying to find the perfect “affordable” way to promote my business to owners and builders of new and existing homes. I spent several weeks calling ad companies, new escrow listing companies and direct mail advertisers with little results, that I could afford, and of course, we all know the expense of putting an ad in the yellow pages, newspapers, and periodicals. However, I did not give up; I just kept on calling people and getting too broad of results, or whole zip code mailing packages that did not fit my criteria and budget. Finely, I was talking to an advertiser about my particular needs on the phone one day and he gave me the name “Construction Monitor." He did not know how to reach tem, but it was a start. I checked out the white pages and Bingo… There you were! I called a few times with different questions that I had, and both Dave Sr., and Dave Jr., along with the nice women in the office were very helpful.
I not only got what I was looking for with mailing labels of new construction permits, but I got the bonus of being able to dissect areas into cities, counties, or the entire area. I can also select the dates that I want to mail from and break down single-family homes from multiple-family dwellings, etc., and remodels from new construction as well. My subscription to Construction Monitor is probably the single best form of getting my information to the people that need it and the people that I am targeting for my business.
Now comes the part you do not want to hear. I protect this information with my life. I do not tell anyone who you are, or what you are all about. I am very protective of my territory. If I tell other companies about you, they will absolutely subscribe to you and become my competition. As many of the companies, I deal with also sell window coverings. I want to keep “you” a secret. I strongly believe you have helped get my word out with almost precision guidance, targeting, and affordability and I would highly recommend you to anyone in the building trades business, except those in my sector of the trade. | I have been in business for a year and a half, so you can guess that I don't have a ton of contractors that I work with. The Construction Monitor is a good way to contact a lot of people quickly. Before CM I would go from city hall to city hall and wright down the names, numbers and company info. That's right, I would get a pad of paper and wright all the info down. You can imagine that took for ever. Then I heard about CM and I was pretty impressed with the whole idea. My biggest contract is with a company I hooked up with when I called them from CM. About 70% of my income this year will come from that contact, so that's pretty substantial. Thanks! |
